About Info Systems Supply

What this site is, where its figures come from, and the rules every guide follows on accuracy, brands and safety.

From 1999 to about 2010 this domain belonged to a supplier of computer cables and connectivity products - SCSI cables and terminators, Cat5 and Cat6, fiber, serial and null modem cables, video and KVM cables, telco cables. This site is not that company and sells nothing. It continues the subject as an independent reference on cables and connectors and the standards behind them.

Where the figures come from

Every speed, distance, power rating and pinout on this site comes from a single fact sheet compiled from the published standards - TIA-568 and IEEE 802.3 for Ethernet, ISO/IEC 11801, HDMI Licensing, VESA, the USB-IF, Intel's Thunderbolt specifications, the EIA/TIA serial standards, T10 and SATA-IO, IEC 60320 and the NEC. Each guide is checked against that sheet before it is published, and a figure that is not on it does not appear.

What the guides do not do

The guides name standards and connector types, never cable makers or shops, and they quote no prices. They describe low-voltage cabling only: anything involving mains electricity is a job for a licensed electrician.
